The new unified register of gun owners in Ukraine will be fully operational in just two years. Currently, it includes information on about 60% of Ukrainians who have the right to use various types of weapons, said Leonid Tymchenko, deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
It was possible to fill the register by 60% in one year. This is even faster than the Ministry of Internal Affairs expected.
450,000 citizens have already registered 650,000 weapons. In general, about 700,000 Ukrainians have weapons permits. They store about 950 thousand units.
“According to preliminary calculations, we needed 3 years for each citizen who has a weapon permit to replace it and the person’s data was entered into the register. We calculated that in the first year we would have 40% filling, and so on we will move to 100%. Today we can say that the register has reached 60%. – noted Leonid Tymchenko.
The number of Ukrainians seeking a permit to own a weapon is growing every month. Among the most popular types of weapons in the hands of citizens, it is possible to single out hunting, smooth-bore and traumatic weapons.
