A group of Russian agents preparing arson attacks was exposed in Latvia
Criminal cases have been opened in Latvia against four people suspected of collaborating with Russia, including arson. Delfi reports.
The investigation by the State Security Service (SSB) has established that a group was created to commit particularly serious crimes against Latvia at the initiative of Russian special services. Its participants were involved in planning, organizing, and executing illegal actions, including arson attacks on various facilities across the country.
This spring, SDB officers detained three suspects, while the fourth was already serving a sentence for another crime.
The evidence collected indicates that the suspects organized the deliberate arson of a private facility related to a defense project in the fall of 2023. In early 2024, they were preparing to set fire to a truck with Ukrainian license plates at a critical infrastructure facility, conducted reconnaissance and videotaped the area.
The suspects also investigated other possible targets, photographed and videotaped them, and then transferred these materials to their handlers in Russia.
Two suspects, Latvian citizens, are accused of collaborating with Russia as part of a group of individuals in activities directed against state security, as well as intentionally damaging someone else’s property.
The State Security Service incriminates the third suspect with incitement and incitement to commit harmful acts, including the search for perpetrators to carry out tasks. The fourth, in turn, is accused of aiding and abetting criminal acts – he delivered the perpetrators to the scene of the alleged crime and helped them escape after it was committed. Three suspects are currently in custody, and another is serving a sentence for another crime.
