A law enforcement officer from the Luhansk region deserted and arranged millions in payments for prisoners of war: details

State Bureau of Investigation reported about the suspicion of a former law enforcement officer and his wife, who, after fleeing to the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk region, fraudulently received more than UAH 2.6 million in state payments intended for the families of prisoners of war.
According to the investigation, the law enforcement officer deserted from the service in the Starobil district at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. His wife, who was already in the occupied territory, submitted false documents about the alleged capture of her husband. Based on these documents, the couple illegally received payments from July 2022 to January 2024.
In addition, the former law enforcement officer tried to get a job with the illegally created “law enforcement agencies” of the so-called “LPR”.
The spouse was notified in absentia of suspicion of desertion and fraud. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Currently, the issue of seizure of the property of the participants, in particular the bank account to which the illegal payments were received, is being resolved.
