Ukraine has set a historical record for sugar exports

Ukrainian sugar producers set a historical record for exports in 2024. 746.3 thousand tons of sugar for the total amount of $419 million were delivered to international markets. About this reported National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine “Ukrtsukor”.

“This is the highest indicator of sugar exports within a calendar year according to statistics that date back to 1997, when the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine was created”, says the message.

At the same time, the agency noted that sugar exports increased by 47% compared to 2023, and by 29% compared to 2021. Among the countries that have become the largest buyers of Ukrainian sugar outside the EU, Turkey, Libya and Cameroon are leading. Also, significant volumes of products were exported to North Macedonia, Somalia, Lebanon, Israel and Sri Lanka.

We will remind that the export of sugar to the European Union has repeatedly caused discussions. In particular, from July 2, 2024, duties were introduced on sugar exceeding the established quotas. Both French sugar beet producers and Polish farmers opposed the excessive export of Ukrainian sugar.
