A pedestrian checkpoint “Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemetske” has been opened on the border of Ukraine with Slovakia.
A new pedestrian and bicycle traffic has started operating at the international checkpoint “Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemetske” on the Ukrainian-Slovak border. The new border crossing format is already in demand among citizens. This was reported by the State Customs Service.
As of January 5, almost a thousand people had used the service. The majority — 855 citizens — crossed the border to enter Ukraine, while 90 people left in the opposite direction.
The introduction of pedestrian traffic became possible after the Protocol between the governments of Ukraine and Slovakia on checkpoints across the common state border, signed in October last year, came into force. The document provides for the arrangement of a separate lane for pedestrians at the checkpoint, which previously served only motor vehicles.
The border crossing for pedestrians and cyclists is carried out around the clock with full customs and border control. Previously, the “Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemetske” point was reconstructed on the basis of the existing “Mali Selmentsi – Velke Slemente” crossing.
