A tourist submarine sank in Egypt, killing 6 people
On March 27, a tourist submarine sank near the coast of Egypt, near Hurghada. Six people died as a result of the accident. At the time of the tragedy, there were 44 passengers on board, including children. About this informs Picture.
The Russian Embassy in Cairo confirmed that all passengers were Russian citizens and traveled with the tour operator Biblio Globus. The submarine that crashed was semi-submersible — a design that allows passengers to observe the underwater world from below the deck. According to local media, the ship named “Sindbad” departed from Hurghada and belongs to the four-star “Sindbad Club” hotel.
As of now, 29 people have been rescued. Nine people were injured, four of them in serious condition. 21 ambulances arrived at the scene of the incident to provide assistance to the injured.
The causes of the accident have not yet been determined. It is known that the boat went on a trip to coral reefs in the Red Sea about a kilometer from the shore, after which it sank. The vessel was operated for several years and had the ability to dive to a depth of 22 meters.
We will remind that similar accidents have already happened in the Hurghada region. In particular, in February of this year, there was also an incident with the sinking of a boat carrying out a diving excursion. Then it was possible to save all the passengers.
