After the fall of the Assad regime, more than 35 thousand Syrians returned to the country from Turkey

In the 21 days after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, an average of 1,672 Syrians returned from Turkey every day, a total of 35,114 people voluntarily left the country during this period. About this stated Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkey Ali Yerlikaya.

“On average, 1,672 people returned to Syria a day after the fall of the Assad regime. A total of 35,114 Syrians voluntarily returned to their homeland in 21 days.” – said the minister.

According to the minister, most of the Syrians who leave Turkey return to their homes in Aleppo.

“30% of 2 million 905 Syrians (in Turkey – ed.), i.e. 805 thousand, are children born here. They do not have Turkish citizenship, they were granted the status of temporary protection. The moment they pass through the checkpoints, their temporary protection ends.” – noted Ali Yerlikaya.

The number of Syrians choosing to return to Syria is likely to increase during the school holidays. As many families plan to return with their children, given the end of the school year in Turkey.
