France introduces the study of artificial intelligence in the school curriculum
French schoolchildren will learn the basics of artificial intelligence as part of the curriculum. The corresponding mandatory course will appear in schools at the beginning of the new school year. About this announced Minister of Education of France Elizabeth Bourne.
Artificial intelligence will become available for online learning to all middle and high school students. However, from September 2025, it will become a compulsory subject for students of the 4th and 2nd grades (similar to Ukrainian 8th and 10th grades).
The minister also noted that teachers will also take the AI course. It will consist of ten educational modules, and online classes will last from 30 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the initial level of knowledge. In addition, in the spring, the French Ministry of Education will publish a document on the ethical use of AI in schools. It is developed by teachers, students, parents and trade unions.
Elizabeth Bourne also announced the launch of a €20 million tender to build “open and scalable artificial intelligence” to help teachers prepare lessons, check and grade homework. The project competition will start in the summer of 2025, and the full implementation of the new tool is planned for the 2026-2027 academic year.
