All medical university students will receive military ranks: Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine is implementing legislative changes adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding the creation of military departments in medical institutions of higher education. Starting from the next academic year, applicants entering medical specialties will undergo military training in parallel with basic education.
This was announced by the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko during the Question Hour to the government . According to him, the training of future doctors will involve obtaining the status of military conscripts and the corresponding rank after completing their education.
“All applicants who enter medical universities and obtain higher medical education will be military conscripts and will obtain the rank of officer upon completion of their education,” Viktor Lyashko emphasized.
He noted that the creation of military departments is a separate area of work of the Ministry of Health and does not affect current cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Lyashko also reported that individual doctors may be released at the request of the Ministry of Defense for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other security and defense sector structures.
Separately, the minister informed about the increase in salaries in the medical field. The average salary of an emergency medical doctor, according to him, is 41,700 UAH, which is 10.5 thousand UAH more than last year.
