Almost 40,000 Hasids came to Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year (video)

Almost 40,000 pilgrims, including 38,000 foreigners, came to Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

“Police continue to ensure public order and security during the Hasidic pilgrimage. The main task is the protection of public law and order, as well as the prevention of criminal and administrative offenses. As of now, almost 40,000 pilgrims have arrived in Uman, including 38,000 foreigners, reported the head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhivskyi.

At the entrances to the pilgrimage area, there is a traffic control regime: policemen check people and vehicles. The streets of the city are patrolled by foot and car police crews. Israeli police officers have also arrived in Uman, helping their Ukrainian colleagues in maintaining law and order during the celebration of the Jewish New Year.

Let us remind you that Uman is home to the grave of the Hasidic leader Rabbi Tzadik (righteous man) Nachman. In autumn, pilgrims from all over the world come to celebrate the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah – this year it is September 22-24. All Jews of this branch of Hasidism consider it their duty to visit the grave of Tzadik Nachman at least once in their life and believe that the new year will be happy if they meet him on Rosh Hashanah in Uman.

After the start of a full-scale war with Russia, Ukrainian authorities urged Hasidim to refrain from the pilgrimage due to security threats. Despite this, in 2022, 23,000 Hasidim visited Uman, in 2023 – over 35,000, in 2024 – over 30,000.
