Almost 40% of Ukrainian agricultural companies complain about staff shortages due to mobilization

Almost 40% of agricultural enterprises in Ukraine face difficulties in finding workers due to mobilization. About this testify the results of the study “Evaluation of the labor market of Ukraine 2024-2025”, conducted by Helvetas Ukraine in cooperation with the State Employment Service and the Federation of Employers.
The survey covered about 55,000 employers, which in total provide work to more than 4.2 million people. According to the results of the study, agriculture was among the industries with the greatest shortage of personnel. Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Dmytro Kokhan, also noted that the agricultural sector is constantly facing a shortage of personnel, especially qualified specialists.
“But to be honest, the main problem is mobilization”, Kohan emphasized.
He noted that although the defense of the country is an absolute priority, the agricultural sector, like other sectors of the economy, is already under significant personnel pressure due to mobilization processes. Additional challenges for the agricultural sector remain urbanization and the outflow of young people from rural areas, which complicates the selection of personnel on the ground.
With the aim of popularizing professions in the field of agriculture among schoolchildren, the VAR jointly with the educational project “SvitOsvit” launched the optional course “Agrospheres”. It has now been implemented in 150 schools, and another 85 teachers are preparing to teach it next year.
“Agricultural machinery with which our enterprises work changes radically every five years. But educational institutions often lack a modern material and technical base. If a teacher shows a student old models of machinery, and the enterprise has to work on modern ones, it is necessary to train the employee for another year and a half in practice.” – summed up Kohan.
