Amazon is closing its Android app store
On August 20, 2025, Amazon announced the closure of its Android app store. The company has already informed developers that they will no longer be able to upload new apps to the store. About this reported the press service of the company.
Amazon will also stop using Coins, a digital currency that could previously be used to purchase apps and games.
“Starting August 20, 2025, you will no longer be able to access the Amazon Appstore on your Android device. We are also ending the Amazon Coins program on August 20, 2025.” – the message says.
The company promised to refund unused Coins at the time of store closure. The reason for this decision was that the service had a low demand among users of Android devices, while the main audience of the Amazon Appstore is on the company’s own devices.
“We have decided to discontinue the Amazon Appstore on Android to focus our efforts on working with the Appstore on our own devices, as the vast majority of our customers currently use it.” – said the representative of the company.
In the future, the company plans to focus on the development of the application store for its own devices, such as Fire TV and Fire Tablet.
