April 29: holidays and events on this day

Today is an important day for football fans and fans of clothes with zippers. April 29 is also celebrated by everyone who is connected with choreography, because among the significant events in the calendar is Dance Day. And in general, everyone who has a dream can celebrate today, because April 29 is the World Wish Day.

Holidays and commemorative dates:

World Day of Wishes – although the holiday is quite positive, it is worth remembering thanks to whom it appeared. In 1980, American law enforcement officers granted the wish of a boy with leukemia, Christopher James Grechus. He dreamed of becoming a policeman. The cops gave the boy a real child-sized uniform and took him in a police car accompanied by a patrol to the office of the Police Department in the city of Phoenix. Christopher also got the opportunity to fly in the service helicopter and was awarded the badge of the honorary police officer of Arizona.

The event became well known and inspired many children to realize their dreams. After some time, Christopher died of an illness. After the boy’s death, the Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in the USA. At first, the organization helped only children from the United States. Currently, it is an international fund that aims to help children from all over the world

Zipper day – in 1913, the Swedish-American electrical engineer Gideon Sundbeck patented a zipper with teeth. The inventor himself called the fastener a “separate lock”.

International Dance Day – Jean-Georges Noverre was born on April 29, who is considered the founder of modern ballet. Celebrating Dance Day is a UN initiative. It was first recognized in 1982.
