This day was started in honor of the establishment and adoption of the charter of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. ITS headquarters are in Geneva, it consists of 194 member states. The main function of the organization is to solve international health problems of the Earth’s population.

Among the main theses of WHO are:

  • Health for all means good health and a full life for every person in a prosperous and sustainable world without wars and conflicts.
  • The right to health is one of the basic human rights. Everyone should be able to receive the necessary medical care at any time and in any place, without experiencing financial difficulties.
  • Thirty percent of people do not have access to basic health care services.
  • Nearly two billion people face catastrophically high and devastating health care costs as a result of severe inequities that hit the most vulnerable populations first.
  • Universal health coverage (UHC) provides financial protection and access to quality basic health care, helps people to rise out of poverty and strengthen family and community well-being, protects the population from harmful health crises, and helps us achieve the goal of ensuring health for all.
  • In order for health for all to become a reality, we need to ensure that each person and each population group, taking care of their health and the health of their loved ones, can receive high-quality medical care; that qualified healthcare workers provide effective care to people, taking into account their needs and interests; and authorities have purposefully allocated resources to ensure universal health coverage.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has set back progress in providing health for all in every country.
  • Against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergencies in the field of health care, humanitarian crises and climatic cataclysms, economic problems and military operations, the task of countries to ensure health for all becomes even more urgent. It is time for leaders to fulfill their commitments to achieving universal health coverage and for civil society to monitor their actions.
