Banning Ukraine from striking targets in the Russian Federation was senseless: Joe Biden’s adviser
Jake Sullivan, the US president’s national security adviser, said that President Joe Biden’s decision to authorize the Ukrainian military to strike Russian territory with US weapons was “common sense”.
That’s what he’s about reported on CBS News.
Sullivan noted that the authorization to strike Russian targets with American weapons changed the situation on the battlefield.
“When Russian troops crossed the border during the offensive in Kharkiv Oblast, it made no sense not to allow the Ukrainians to attack objects in Russia,” – he said.
“From the president’s point of view, it was common sense. What happened around Kharkiv in the last few months was a Russian offensive… And it just didn’t make sense not to allow the Ukrainians to fire across the border, to hit Russian firing points, from where the Ukrainians were being fired upon. Therefore, the president gave permission for this,” Sullivan added.
He emphasized that the US continues to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has confirmed the destruction and damage of Russian S-300 and S-400 systems with the help of Western artillery installations.
Earlier, the head of NATO’s Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, noted that Ukraine should have the right to strike Russian territory with Western weapons without limiting the range in order to effectively defend itself. Bauer supported the authorization of such strikes from a military point of view, emphasizing the absence of limits on range in the law of armed conflict.
