Bodies of 563 fallen soldiers returned to Ukraine

The bodies of 563 fallen Ukrainian defenders have been returned to Ukraine as part of repatriation measures. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on its Telegram channel.

The bodies of 320 soldiers killed in the Donetsk sector and 89 defenders from the Bakhmut sector were returned. In addition, 154 bodies stored in morgues in Russia were returned.

This process was made possible thanks to the coordinated cooperation of the Coordination Headquarters with the Joint Centre of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Central Military Command), the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service, as well as other structures of the security and defence sector.

The Coordination Centre expressed gratitude for the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The bodies of the victims will be transported to designated state institutions by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where law enforcement officials and forensic experts will identify the victims.
