Britain suspends tariffs to save businesses from Trump’s trade war

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has decided to suspend import duties on dozens of goods in order to support British businesses that have suffered losses due to new tariffs introduced by US President Donald Trump. About this informs The Telegraph.

The country’s government is temporarily setting zero customs rates on 89 types of goods — from batteries for electric cars to fruit juices — for the period until July 2027.

Among the products to be scrapped are aluminum wheels and battery components for electric cars, which should reduce costs for British companies after Trump imposed new import duties. The list also includes agave syrup, foods including pasta, canned pineapples, pine nuts, fruit juices, coconut oil and plant bulbs.

In addition, customs duties on the import of plywood and plastic products have been reduced in order to reduce the financial burden on the construction sector.

These measures are part of a broader package of support for businesses affected by US trade restrictions. It also includes the expansion of the state lending program for such companies. The government predicts the initiative will save businesses around £17 million each year, some of which is likely to be passed on to consumers.
