Brussels is preparing restrictions on entry to Schengen for participants in the war against Ukraine
Head of European Diplomacy Kaya Callas announced about work aimed at preventing entry into the Schengen area of persons who participated in the war against Ukraine.
As Kallas reported following the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, the relevant work is being carried out jointly with the European Commission.
“Together with the Commission, we are working to keep potential hundreds of thousands of former Russian soldiers outside the Schengen area. We do not want war criminals and saboteurs to roam our streets,” Kallas said.
It was also announced that the staff of the Russian Permanent Mission to the European Union would be reduced to 40 people.
“I have decided to limit the maximum number of Russian missions to the European Union to 40 people. We will not tolerate abuse of diplomatic powers,” Kallas stressed.
On Monday, the Council of the European Union expanded the sanctions regime against Russia over massive human rights violations, including eight more Russian citizens.
The head of European diplomacy also stressed that the EU “will not tolerate abuse of diplomatic powers,” and confirmed joint work with the European Commission on banning former Russian military personnel from entering the Schengen area.
