Changes in child support for Ukrainian refugees in Poland

From June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025, the regular period of child benefit payments for Ukrainian refugees in Poland will last. The country’s government will pay 800 zlotys for each child under 18 every month.
This is reported inpoland.net.pl.
Acceptance of applications began on February 1. Parents or guardians of the child can submit an application to ZUS by April 30. Then they will receive money continuously. If the documents are submitted in May, the money will arrive in the account by July 31, along with the compensation for June. If the application is submitted in June, the transfer from ZUS will be transferred to the recipient’s account by the end of August, and the compensation – from June.
The application can only be submitted electronically using:
- PUE ZUS or mZUS mobile application;
- Emp@tia portal;
- electronic banking.
Those who apply for “800+” payments after June 30 will be entitled to assistance only from the month of submission of documents. Parents of newborns are an exception. They can apply within 3 months after the birth of the child to receive full benefits. According to the project of amendments to the law, refugee children must attend school or kindergarten in order to receive assistance.
“The purpose of the proposed change is to link the right to receive 800+ benefits for refugees from Ukraine with the fact that children fulfill their school obligations. The proposal will still be refined in order not to affect the effectiveness of the current system of payment of assistance”, – says the explanatory note to the draft law.
From May 2024, a condition may be introduced regarding the compulsory education of school-age children or attendance at a kindergarten in order to receive assistance.
Currently, the draft law is still being finalized.
