Children of diplomats studying abroad are compensated for their education expenses from the state budget

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine continues to improve social guarantees for employees of the diplomatic service, especially regarding the education of their children. The new changes, approved by the government on August 16, are aimed at easing the financial burden on families of diplomats on long-term assignments abroad.
On August 16, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved changes to the Procedure for paying expenses related to the education of children of diplomatic service employees who are on long-term business trips abroad. According to these changes, it is now possible to cover the costs of preschool and general secondary education of such children at the expense of the state budget.
The order contains clear rules that regulate the payment of expenses for the education of diplomats’ children in cases where education begins or ends in the middle of the school year. This innovation allows you to avoid the problems that previously arose due to the inconsistency of study periods in different countries and the financial difficulties associated with such situations.
These changes can be considered in the context of broader reforms in the Ukrainian education system. In particular, last year the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine raised the issue of the possible cancellation of budget education for most specialties. As a result, part of budget students can be transferred to grant funding, which, however, does not cover the full cost of education. Such plans cause discussions in society, since budget education has traditionally been considered one of the main forms of social support for students.
While the education reforms are drawing mixed reactions, the latest changes for children of diplomats are aimed at increasing their social security.
Note that such support is a common practice in many countries of the world. It allows diplomatic families to focus on fulfilling their professional duties without worrying about possible problems with access to education for their children. In the conditions of war and global challenges, Ukraine preserves and expands social guarantees for its citizens, demonstrating its desire to support its representatives in the international arena.
