China and Armenia have officially entered into a strategic partnership
Armenia and China officially formalized a strategic partnership, agreeing to expand cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres. reports this “Echo of the Caucasus”.
The relevant joint statement was signed by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping during a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, China.
According to the press service of the government of Armenia, both sides confirmed their intention to intensify cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian directions. In particular, Pashinyan and Xi emphasized the importance of developing cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture, tourism, the information sphere, and metrology.
The Armenian prime minister also confirmed Yerevan’s desire to join the SCO and reached agreements with the Chinese leader on deepening cooperation within the organization. Xi Jinping stated that China “irrevocably supports the political independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia”, as well as the government’s “Crossroads of the World” project. and unblocking regional transport communications.
The joint statement emphasizes that Armenia confirms its commitment to the principle of “one China”, recognizes Taiwan as an integral part of the territory of the People’s Republic of China, and the Chinese government as the only legitimate one representing all of China. Yerevan opposed any form of “Taiwan independence” and expressed support for Beijing’s efforts at national reunification. Xi Jinping, for his part, expressed support for both Armenia and Azerbaijan joining the SCO.
