EU and the world

For the third time in a week, the EU leader had problems with his plane

The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, could not personally arrive at the summit of the coalition of the willing in Paris due to technical problems with his plane. This is the third air incident in a week involving top European leaders, reports Sky News.

Sánchez will join the summit via video link today after being forced to return to Madrid due to plane trouble. As the spokesman of his office clarified, the incident happened already during the flight.

This incident happened shortly after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s plane came under the influence of a GPS jamming system, which was reportedly installed by Russia. At the same time, it is emphasized that there are no signs of a connection with the Sanchez incident. The day before, the plane of the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda could not land in Vilnius for some time due to a signal about the possible presence of a drone in the area of the airport.

Let us remind you that today, September 4, about 30 world leaders will meet with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in Paris to discuss the prospects of security guarantees for Kyiv. The event is taking place against the background of a lack of clear commitments from the US. Ukraine’s partners have already prepared technical plans for these guarantees and are now preparing a political signal for the US president.
