China considers the demands of the US and Russia to join the nuclear disarmament talks to be “unreasonable and unrealistic”. This was stated by the spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Guo Jiakun, reports Reuters.
Guo Jiakun emphasized that the nuclear capabilities of China and the US cannot be compared:
“The nuclear capabilities of China and the United States are at completely different levels, and the strategic security environment and nuclear policies of the two countries are also completely different. Therefore, it is unreasonable and unrealistic to demand that China start trilateral negotiations on nuclear disarmament with the USA and Russia.
The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that China strictly adheres to the principle of not using nuclear weapons first and adheres to an exclusively defensive nuclear strategy, not planning to enter into an arms race with any country.
“Countries with the largest nuclear arsenals should be the first to fulfill their special priority obligations regarding nuclear disarmament”, – added Guo Jiakun.
Recall that on August 25, Donald Trump stated that one of the key goals of the United States is denuclearization in cooperation with China and Russia. According to the US president, Moscow is allegedly already ready for negotiations, and Beijing will join later.
