China Launches Another AI Model That Should Surpass DeepSeek

On January 29, the Chinese technology company Alibaba presented a new version of its AI model Qwen 2.5, which, according to the developers, is superior to the widely praised DeepSeek-V3. About this informs Reuters.
The release of Qwen 2.5-Max on the first day of Chinese New Year, when most citizens are on holiday with their families, shows the increasing pressure on Chinese AI developers. The rapid success of the startup DeepSeek over the past three weeks has increased competition not only among international companies, but also in the domestic market.
According to the Alibaba platform, the new Qwen 2.5-Max model outperforms GPT-4o, DeepSeek-V3 and Llama-3.1-405B in almost all key parameters.
DeepSeek’s impact on the market became particularly noticeable after the January 10 release of the AI assistant based on DeepSeek-V3, as well as the January 20 release of the R1 model, which caused concern in Silicon Valley and affected the decline of technology stocks.
The declared low cost of developing and using DeepSeek models has forced investors to reconsider the economic efficiency of spending by the largest American companies in the field of artificial intelligence.
