Combat medics launch 24-hour “Call a Brother” hotline to help seriously wounded soldiers
In Ukraine, combat medics have created a telephone hotline “Call to a Comrade”, which is designed to help save the lives of seriously wounded soldiers. It works around the clock and provides an opportunity to receive urgent medical advice in situations where evacuation from the battlefield is impossible. The launch of the initiative was announced by the First Separate Medical Battalion.
The wounded soldier’s relatives or the soldier himself, if he is conscious, can contact doctors at any time of the day to receive professional advice on stabilizing his condition. In many cases, evacuation is delayed, and the chance of rescue decreases with every minute, so timely and qualified assistance is crucial.
Consultation is carried out in the format of a video call. This allows doctors not only to explain the procedure, but also to monitor the correctness of the provision of assistance directly during the conversation.
You can contact doctors at 097 999 09 01 via WhatsApp or Signal messengers.
Medics recommend transmitting information about the condition of the injured person using the international MIST algorithm. “What happened – what do I see – what indicators – what have already been done,” the experts explained.
The algorithm includes the following stages:
M (Mechanism of injury) – mechanism of injury: circumstances of injury, in particular explosion, bullet injury or fall;
I (Injuries found) – injuries found: localization and nature of injuries that are visible or suspected;
S (Signs and Symptoms) – vital signs: level of consciousness, presence of breathing, pulse, blood pressure;
T (Treatment given) — treatment given: what actions have already been performed, including the time of tourniquet application, tamponade, decompression, or infusion.
