Construction of the second Eurorail has started in Ukraine

The construction of a second European-standard railway track is underway in Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development Oleksiy Kuleba.

“Today, together with the Director of the European Commission for Transport Magda Kopczynska, we launched the construction of a European-standard track. It will be built from the border with Poland to Sknylov, near Lviv”, the minister said.

According to Kuleba, Ukraine received the first grant of 73.5 million euros from the European Commission for the implementation of this project.

“The length of the track is about 80 km. In this way, we will expand the direct and compatible connection between Ukraine and the European TEN-T network. We plan to complete the construction by the end of 2027, he noted. The minister also reported that in the first two months of operation of the Eurorail between Chop and Uzhhorod, 9,500 passengers used the routes to Bratislava, Košice, Budapest and Vienna. This project is part of a broader strategy for integrating the Ukrainian railway system into the European transport space. It will promote the development of logistics, increase trade efficiency and strengthen physical ties between Ukraine and the main EU transport corridors, Kuleba added. Recall that on September 5, a section of the Eurorail to Chop was opened in Uzhhorod, which provides a connection between the city and Bratislava, Košice, Budapest and Vienna.
