Consultations on the draft of the updated Labor Code have been completed in Ukraine
In Ukraine, the final the sixth of the planned consultations in a tripartite format, devoted to the discussion of the updated draft of the Labor Code of Ukraine.
In order to observe the principles of social dialogue, find compromise solutions and agree on positions, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the State Labor Service, the National Mediation and Conciliation Service, as well as representatives of employers, trade unions, people’s deputies, Ukrainian and international experts in the field of labor law.
“The transformation of legislation in the field of labor and labor relations is among the main priorities of our ministry and the Government in general. The reform of labor legislation will contribute to the development of the labor market, strengthening the economy, improving the general standard of living of Ukrainians and bringing us closer to EU law. This is a big step on the way to European integration, – noted the Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksiy Sobolev.
Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Daria Marchak will head the direction of regulation of labor relations in the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Daria Marchak. In the process of working on the draft Labor Code, many consultations took place with trade unions, business and international partners in order to take into account the opinions of all parties and find common solutions.
“It is important that the new code was developed in compliance with social dialogue. Trade unions and employers’ organizations took an active part in the discussion. Therefore, these six series of consultations were held under the auspices of the International Labor Organization in such a format that the opinion of each of the parties was taken into account, Daria Marchak explained.
During the final meeting, issues related to the regulation of overtime working hours, the length of the working day and rest, European practice regarding the work of the Labor Inspectorate, the independence and powers of inspectors, as well as the compliance of the project provisions with international standards were discussed. Work on the new edition of the Labor Code of Ukraine lasted almost two years. In the future, the document will be revised for submission to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
