Ukraine and the Russian Federation are preparing for a large exchange of prisoners of war: Bloomberg

Journalists claim that each side intends to release 90 prisoners.

Ukraine and Russia plan to exchange 180 prisoners under an agreement brokered by the United Arab Emirates. informs Bloomberg with reference to its own sources.

This is the sixth exchange of prisoners this year organized by the UAE. Under the deal, each side will release 90 prisoners, bringing the total number of UAE-brokered prisoners exchanged to nearly 1,400 this year.

The UAE acted as mediators in numerous agreements not only between Russia and Ukraine, but also between Russia and the USA. For example, they provided logistical support and arranged an exchange when Moscow released WNBA star Brittney Greiner in exchange for convicted arms dealer Victor Booth.

According to the publication, in early June, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is holding 6,465 Ukrainian prisoners of war, while the Ukrainian authorities claim that 1,348 Ukrainians are in Russian captivity.

It will be recalled that on June 26, Ukraine returned 90 soldiers from captivity, among whom were the defenders of Mariupol and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, said that the exchange of prisoners of war was also carried out through the mediation of the UAE. Among those released were servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, National University of Ukraine and State Security Service of Ukraine.
