Czech Republic plans to build and transfer an Earth observation satellite to Ukraine

The Czech government has announced its intention to build and transfer to Ukraine a modern Earth observation satellite capable of monitoring in any conditions. This is stated in a statement by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The department noted that the satellite will be able to collect data regardless of the time of day and weather conditions. The project will be implemented by Czech companies with experience in creating space technologies, including small satellites.

The Czech Ministry of Transport clarified that the launch of the satellite is planned for approximately within a year. This will be the first time that Ukraine has received assistance of this type from another state. The Czech development will have a combined surveillance system – radar (SAR), optical and radiation. Thanks to this, monitoring will be possible even at night and in adverse weather.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the government program for the recovery of Ukraine and cooperation between the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and the State Space Agency of Ukraine. In the future, it is planned to create several similar devices.

Let us recall that in February 2024, Czech President Petr Pavel announced the collection of 800 thousand artillery shells for transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine received the first batch of these shells in June 2024.
