Deputy Minister of Education and Science, deputy of the Kyiv City Council from the “Servant of the People” party Andrii Vitrenka is accused of academic plagiarism in his scientific articles and candidate’s thesis. About this it is said in the material of the public initiative “Dysergate”, published on the resource “Plagiarism and falsification in scientific papers”.
“Let’s continue the story of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, which we started telling a few days ago. This official will become famous not only with six plagiarized articles published in scientific journals! There is also a wonderful plagiarized PhD thesis!”, – noted in “Dysergate”.
Vitrenko prepared his dissertation at the Department of Economic Theory of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics and defended it in May 2005 at a meeting of the specialized academic council of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University.
“Dysergate” reported that numerous coincidences with other works, paraphrasing, permutations of words, as well as other forms of violation of academic integrity, including plagiarism of materials of Russian and Kazakh scientists, were found in the text of the dissertation. Earlier, the same organization reported on possible facts of plagiarism in six scientific articles of the deputy minister.
In 2017, Vitrenko also defended his doctoral thesis on the topic “The sphere of services in the conditions of post-industrial transformations”. Since July 2020, he has held the position of Deputy Minister of Education, and for some time he performed the duties of First Deputy Minister.
We will remind that on February 27, 2024, the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education called on the Ministry of Education and Science to deprive ex-minister Serhiy Skarlet of the degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences due to discovered academic plagiarism. Subsequently, the Kyiv District Administrative Court found the agency’s decision regarding plagiarism in Skarlet’s dissertation to be illegal and canceled it. Scarlet himself denies the fact of plagiarism in his works.
