Donald Trump delivered a speech at the UN General Assembly
US President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the opening of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. He was greeted on the podium with applause, reports ABC News.
At the beginning of his speech, the US president focused on the achievements of his first term and criticized the effectiveness of the United Nations. Despite an increasing number of countries recognizing Palestine, Trump described it as a “reward” to Hamas and called for a ceasefire and an end to the conflict in Gaza.
The American president also criticized European countries for continuing to buy Russian oil, saying that he learned about this “irreparable” trend only two weeks ago. In addition, he accused India and China of being the “main sponsors” of the war by buying Russian oil.
“Climate change, no matter what, you are involved in it. No more global warming, no more global cooling. All these predictions, made by the UN and many others, often for bad reasons, have been wrong. They were made by stupid people who cost their countries fortunes and deprived those countries of their chances of success. If you don’t abandon this green scam, your country will be defeated,” the US president said.
Trump admitted that he expected a faster end to the war in Ukraine:
“I thought it would be the easiest. But, as you know, in war you never know what can happen. There are always many surprises, both good and bad. Everyone thought that Russia would win this war in three days, but it didn’t happen that way.”
The US president said that his tariff policy is a tool to protect the sovereignty and security of the state.
“In the United States we want trade and strong trade with all nations, all. We want to help nations. We are going to help the nations. But it must also be fair and reciprocal,” Trump emphasized, addressing world leaders. He added that the countries that “broke the rules” had a negative impact on those that followed them.
In addition, Trump criticized the immigration policies of other countries and accused the UN of financing the “attack of migrants on Western countries”:
“It is time to end the failed experiment of open borders. You have to end it now.”
The American president also emphasized his own steps to curb migration, adding that it would be appropriate for other world leaders to follow this path as well.
