DPRK speaks out for the first time on sending troops to Russia

For the first time, North Korea has officially responded to accusations by Ukraine and South Korea about sending its military to support Russia in its war against Ukraine. The representative of the DPRK categorically rejected these accusations, calling them “baseless rumours”, the purpose of which, according to him, is to discredit Pyongyang and undermine friendly relations with Moscow.
For message Yonhap agency, the comment appeared during a meeting of the UN General Assembly’s First Committee on Disarmament, where a North Korean diplomat said that their delegation saw no point in responding to “stereotypical rumors” that only try to tarnish the country’s image and harm cooperation between sovereign states.
This was the first official reaction of Pyongyang after South Korean intelligence services reported that the DPRK could send about 12,000 troops to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine. According to their data, some of these troops, including 1,500 people, have already arrived in Vladivostok. However, both North Korea and Russia categorically deny such participation.
For its part, the United States also noted that at the moment there is no convincing evidence of the presence of the North Korean military in the conflict zone.
Let’s add that previously South Korea’s permanent representative to the UN, Jongkuk Hwang, expressed concern that North Korea could receive nuclear technology from Russia as payment for military assistance in the war against Ukraine.
