Elite apartments and high-profile accusations against Azov: what Mosiychuk said and how Prokopenko reacted

In Ukraine, a public scandal broke out again, which became a reason for passionate discussions in the media space. Former People’s Deputy Ihor Mosiychuk publicly accused the deputy commander of the “Azov” regiment of purchasing elite real estate in the center of Kyiv. The accusations relate to one of the most expensive locations in the capital – the residential complex “Novopecherski Lipky”. This became a reason for loud questions: where did the military get such funds? The “Azovians” themselves responded harshly to the accusations, calling it an attempt to discredit and manipulate public opinion.

What Ihor Mosiychuk said

Former deputy of the People’s Republic Ihor Mosiychuk, who is abroad after the full-scale invasion, recently published information on Facebook, which, according to him, is confirmed by documents. The politician claims that several deputies of the commander of the “Azov” regiment Denys “Redis” Prokopenko immediately became the owners of elite housing in the residential complex “Novopecherski Lypky”. In his post, he mentioned the names of the military men whom he accuses of acquiring expensive real estate: Ivan “Ignat” Ignatiev, Bohdan “Tavr” Krotevich, Mykyta “Raz-Dva” Nadtochii, Serhiy “Molfar” Tsysaruk, Oleg “Apis” Khomenko and Svyatoslav ” Kalina” Palamar.

According to Mosiychuk, each of these apartments is worth about 20 million hryvnias, which translates to approximately 500,000 dollars. In total, as the politician calculated, the cost of all purchased apartments reaches 120 million hryvnias. Mosiychuk added that one of the deputies, Bohdan Krotevych, allegedly bought additional housing in Sofiyska Borshchagivka – a more modest apartment with an area of 65 square meters.

To his post, Mosiychuk added a screenshot of the documents that confirm the fact of the purchase of real estate. In his statements, the former deputy of the People’s Republic of Ukraine questioned the sources of funding for these purchases, pointing out that it is impossible to afford such real estate on a military man’s salary. He also suggested that the funds that could have gone to help the families of captured and dead fighters were used for personal purposes.

“At whose expense were the apartments purchased? Hardly every one of them is a successful businessman or can afford to buy such a luxury on his salary. If the funds were provided by someone from the “good people”, they definitely had somewhere to direct them more fairly. I mean the families of captured and fallen heroes of “Azov”, – wrote Mosiychuk.

Separately, Mosiychuk hinted that regiment commander Denys Prokopenko was also choosing an apartment in this residential complex, but the deal for 1.2 million dollars never happened for unknown reasons.

“According to my source, Prokopenko also chose an apartment in this residential complex, but it cost 1.2 million dollars and the purchase did not take place for some reason. For now…” – said the former deputy of the People’s Republic of Ukraine.

The politician urged investigative journalists to pay attention to this topic and understand the situation. At the same time, Mosiychuk did not respond to subscribers’ direct questions about the sources of the received information and documents.

The reaction of the commander of the “Azov” regiment to the accusations

A few days after Ihor Mosiychuk publicly accused the deputy commander of “Azov” of buying elite real estate in the capital, the commander of the regiment, Denys Prokopenko, reacted to these statements. In his post on Facebook, he sharply criticized the spread of information, calling it another attempt to discredit the unit and emphasizing the baselessness of such accusations.

Prokopenko began his statement by saying that such campaigns are usually initiated by the Russians to discredit Azov, but this time the situation is different.

“Another shameful campaign to discredit Azov has started. It’s a pity that this time the customers were not Russians, even they didn’t stoop so low.” – emphasized the commander.

He also added that any attempts to blacken the reputation of the regiment are absolutely futile:

“Disappointing the customer is absolutely pointless. No one will ever be able to slander the name and glorious history of Azov.”

The commander explained that he does not intend to make excuses because of absurd accusations, and his statement is aimed at clarifying the situation. According to him, Ihor Mosiychuk, who made these “facts” public, is none other than a dodger who went abroad at the beginning of the war, as well as a person who was repeatedly involved in corruption scandals and cooperation with pro-Russian forces. Prokopenko directly called Mosiychuk “a briber and Medvedchuk propagandist” who spreads dubious information from abroad and provokes a public outcry.

Prokopenko further stated that the “Azov” unit always works transparently and reports both to the Ukrainian people and to foreign partners who help the brigade. According to him, journalists can at any time gain access to the processes of securing “Azov” in order to personally verify their transparency.

“Our funds are ready to undergo any audit, and it will demonstrate that not a single penny was taken from the collected funds to purchase apartments for Azov servicemen. – emphasized the commander.

Therefore, he refuted accusations about the possible misuse of funds collected to support the brigade.

Prokopenko also reminded about the “Heart of Azovstal” initiative – a project aimed at supporting the defenders of Mariupol. Thanks to this program, many soldiers who lost their homes in the occupied territories or were seriously injured were able to get new housing. According to him, those who defended Ukraine for years, survived Russian captivity or were left homeless due to the war, deserve support from the state or benefactors.

“Those who gave everything to the defense of Ukraine, who for years guaranteed peace and security to Ukrainian cities, who survived serious injuries and Russian captivity, and whose homes were destroyed by the occupiers, have the right to receive apartments from the state or patronage programs.” – said Prokopenko.

At the same time, the commander emphasized that the state has not yet developed a special program to provide housing for “Azov” fighters, and this issue currently rests on the shoulders of commanders and patrons who help the unit.

Regarding Mosiychuk’s accusations about the deputies’ apartments, Prokopenko explained that they are not related to state or charity housing programs. According to him, this is solely the initiative of a private philanthropist who decided to support specific military personnel.

“The six apartments that my deputies received are not part of the housing assistance program. Not a single penny was taken from this program either. This is a personal initiative of a patron. If a corrupt component is found in the activities of my deputy, then the very next day he will be suspended from his official duties and will be brought to justice”, – assured Prokopenko.
