In times of war, many people become real heroes, from civilians who show incredible abilities, to selfless soldiers, rescuers and medics. Today, IA “FACT” will tell you the story of a doctor who, from the first day of the war, remains in Kharkiv under fire, but does not lose hope, courage, sense of humor and still saves the lives of wounded Ukrainian soldiers.
Journalist Anna Bezhenska managed to get to one of the medical institutions and personally talk to the doctor, who has not left his work for a single day since the beginning of the war, although the location of the institution was constantly under shelling and at great risk. His name is Ter-Hovanesyan Ruben Surenovich, a doctor of the highest category who saved lives both before and during the war.
Ruben Surenovich impressed with his dedication to the medical profession while helping our defenders, his courage, as well as his sense of humor, which saves not only the bodies, but also the psyche of the victims. He told how the war changed the daily life of the hospital, turning every day into a real struggle. Shelling and risks became a part of the medical daily life, but this did not stop medics from the mission of saving people. Unfortunately, due to Ruben Surenovich’s constant calls to patients, we were not able to fully disclose all the events he tried to tell about, but the main thing he emphasized was that he would never take off his white coat while there is a need for his help.
We believe that it is important to note the fact that at the beginning of the war, this doctor faced a very difficult decision between taking his sick parents out of the city or immediately returning to the hospital. But he solved this issue in this way: he took his parents to his hospital and taught them how to help save people. They lived and worked with him for almost 4 months.
Ruben Surenovych also told a sad story about the dead medical staff who, leaving after work, came under another shelling of the hospital. It was another important reminder of the brutality of war and its merciless nature. However, the war showed that even in loss there is strength: the strength of memory, which pays tribute to those who gave their lives for others, and the strength of determination to continue fighting, regardless of danger.
We also managed to meet one patient of the doctor – a 20-year-old military man, who also spoke about his life, courage and a piece of reality from the front. Despite all the challenges, this young man maintained a courageous attitude and faith in victory. He shared his life experience with us, which became an additional story about endurance, dedication and love for his native land. His words have deep meaning and wisdom gained on the battlefields and trials of war. This short meeting left an unforgettable impression, filling our hearts with faith and hope for a better future.
There were a lot of stories and events, and such a trip to the hospital is very difficult. However, all these difficult situations showed not only the depth of dedication of doctors to medical affairs, and soldiers to military affairs, but also their boundless love and concern for people. The example of Ruben Surenovich and this young man should be a great inspiration to others, showing that even in the darkest times, strength and light can be found in acts of kindness and justice. And although war can take away many lives and hope, it cannot take away the human spirit, kindness and courage. Real heroes come out of difficult times stronger, they are a ray of light in the darkness and our hope for the future.
