Elon Musk’s Neuralink has successfully implanted a brain chip in a second patient

Neuralink continues to test a device designed to help people with spinal cord injuries.

The company Neuralink, founded by businessman Elon Musk, announced the successful implantation of a brain chip in a second patient. This chip is designed to give paralyzed people the ability to use digital devices with their thoughts, informs Reuters.

Neuralink continues to test a device designed to help people with spinal cord injuries. The first patient who received the chip was able to play video games, browse the Internet, post messages on social networks and move the cursor on his laptop.

The second participant was a patient with a spinal cord injury similar to that of the first patient, who was paralyzed after a diving accident. According to Musk, 400 electrodes of the implant work in the brain of the second patient. On its website, Neuralink specifies that the implant uses 1,024 electrodes.

Musk did not specify when the second patient was operated on, but said the company plans to provide the implants to eight more people in clinical trials this year.

We will remind, at the end of January 2024, the first person in the world was implanted with a brain implant developed by Neuralink. The first patient uses this implant to play computer chess and the video game Civilization VI for eight hours straight, after which the implant needs to be recharged. However, the details of the charging process have not been disclosed yet.
