‘Ending the war overnight is unrealistic”: Kremlin responds to Trump’s statements on Ukraine
The Kremlin has commented on Donald Trump’s statement about his intention to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that ending the war ‘overnight’ is unrealistic, although he admitted that the United States could influence the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
Peskov said this on Wednesday, 6 November. According to him, although the US has the resources to promote peace, such changes will take more time. He also suggested that Trump’s rhetoric could change after he takes office, pointing to similar cases with previous US leaders.
‘We have repeatedly said that the United States of America is able to contribute to the end of the conflict in Ukraine. This, of course, cannot be done overnight,’ Peskov said.
Peskov also noted that he did not know whether Vladimir Putin would send congratulations to Trump on his election victory.
Earlier, in his first address after the election, Trump said that he was not seeking to start new wars, but to end existing ones. He declared himself the 47th president of the United States, promising to usher in a new era of prosperity for the country.
According to preliminary data, Republican candidate Donald Trump won the US presidential election, beating Vice President Kamala Harris and gaining the required 270 electoral votes.
