Energy from one’s own garden: how the ingenuity of a Dnipro native supports Ukraine’s small economy

In the conditions of constant power outages and the general energy crisis, Ukrainians are forced to look for non-standard solutions to provide their homes with light and communication. Blackouts forced ordinary citizens to resort to inventing and creating alternative energy installations that are able to work even in the most difficult conditions. What do the inventors offer? Solar batteries from recycled plastic bottles and other waste are a technology that, in addition to the energy problem, helps to solve the problem of environmental pollution. There are cases of construction of mini-hydroelectric power stations on rivers and streams in the rural areas of the western part of Ukraine. Enthusiasts from different regions of Ukraine create their own wind generators using available materials and components. Ukrainian farmers actively use biogas plants that convert organic waste (manure, plant residues, etc.) into biogas.

It is not for nothing that the people say: grief is cunning in fiction. Oleksandr Klymenko, a pensioner from Dnipro, built a wind power plant with his own hands right in his garden. Initially, the inventor planned to build an airplane, but the decision changed in favor of a wind generator. In addition, he also installed solar batteries, so nature provides him with light.

– All my life I find something, repair it. I like it!  Well, when the power outages started, I decided to assemble a windmill. He cooked under him for six months. I didn’t use the Internet, I came up with almost everything myself. The first windmill whistled eerily, but did not give any tension. The second – in the form of a daisy – too. But on the third attempt, everything turned out perfectly. Now the windmill works silently, but effectively. In windy weather, the whole quarter can light up! When there is no wind, I switch to solar energy, – says the talented resident of Dnipro.

Solar batteries have not remained ordinary either. They now turn to follow the sun for maximum efficiency.

– We consume 600-700 kilowatts per month, and the work of the windmill and solar station is enough. Energy is stored in batteries, which can then be used. Of course, when it is completely calm and dark, you have to connect to a fixed network. But in general, alternative electricity is enough for everything, – states Oleksandr Klymenko.

The pensioner does not sell excess electricity. If enough energy is accumulated, the station is turned off. Local residents know that you can always charge your phone or work on your laptop in his house. They call it a kind of point of invincibility.

The Dnipro native was offered a lot of money for the windmill, but he wanted to sell his invention.

The energy crisis continues. Ukrainians are increasingly preparing for mass power outages: some are buying generators, mobile chargers, and candles. And someone makes real inventions that are useful both for their household and for their neighbors.

The invention of a Dnipro resident is an example of how individual initiatives and small projects can contribute to the development of a small economy, ensuring energy independence and supporting the local community.
