EU and Ukraine create joint alliance in the field of defense UAVs
On May 5, the European Commission announced a call for expressions of interest in the status of founding members of the EU-Ukraine Alliance on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
The Alliance should strengthen the security and defense of the European Union and Ukraine through the development of an innovative industrial ecosystem in the field of defense UAVs. Its creation is connected with the speech of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the State of the European Union in 2025, in which she announced measures to counter the growing threats associated with the use of drones.
“EU-Ukraine UAV Alliance in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and means of countering them. As an industry-led ecosystem, it will contribute to European efforts to build a comprehensive capability in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles and countermeasures, building on the “Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030″ and the Commission’s Action Plan on the Security of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Countermeasures,” the statement said.
The founding members will be selected from among applicants with experience in the EU and Ukraine defence drone ecosystem. They will form the first board of the Alliance and define its activities and priorities.
The Alliance is expected to start operations in the coming months. Applications will be accepted until May 25, 2026.
