EU approves 17th package of sanctions against Russia

The European Union approved the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, which covers almost 200 vessels of the so-called “shadow fleet”. About this reported head of European diplomacy Kaya Callas.
The purpose of the new restrictions is to increase pressure on Moscow, particularly in the field of maritime transport, which is used to circumvent current sanctions. The package also includes measures in response to hybrid threats and human rights violations. In addition, a new legal framework has been created for restrictions on propaganda media. More than 20 legal entities and individuals involved in spreading disinformation have been added to the sanctions list.
“The longer Russia fights this war, the tougher our response will be.” Kallas emphasized.
At the same time, the European Union is already preparing the following sanctions initiatives aimed at further isolating the economy and political system of Russia.
We will remind that the previous 16th package of sanctions was adopted by the EU in February in response to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. After that, negotiations continued regarding the content of the next stage of restrictions. European partners have repeatedly declared their readiness to increase sanctions pressure if Russia does not agree to the cessation of hostilities. Brussels also confirmed its intention to continue work on new sanctions.
