Europe could not agree on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia

The representatives of the countries of the European Union could not reach an agreement on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia. About this informs Reuters.

According to the message, two EU member states have blocked the adoption of the package due to disputes over the terms given to European companies to withdraw investments from Russia. It is not specified which countries opposed it.

One of the key points of the package concerned the continuation of benefits that allow the Czech Republic to import diesel fuel and other products produced with the storage of Russian oil at a Slovakian refinery. The Czech Republic has said it has no plans to push for an extension of the deal that allows imports of such fuel, while Slovakia is keen to keep the deal. The previous agreement expired on December 5.

The Slovak refinery Slovnaft, owned by the Hungarian company MOL, is one of the main suppliers of diesel fuel made from Russian oil to the Czech Republic. Czech officials said they were ready to support a six-month extension of the agreement.

In addition, the new package of sanctions includes measures aimed at limiting the activities of tankers that transport Russian oil. However, due to existing differences, the package remains uncoordinated.
