Every tenth new company in Poland is owned by Ukrainians

Ukrainian entrepreneurs are becoming an important component of the economic landscape of Poland, playing a key role in the creation of new businesses. According to data According to the Polish Economic Institute (PIE), in the first half of 2024, every tenth new business registered in Poland belonged to Ukrainians. At the same time, 77% of new enterprises registered by foreigners in Poland were headed by Ukrainians.
From January 2022 to June 2024, approximately 59,800 active individual enterprises owned by citizens of Ukraine were created in Poland. In the first half of 2024, Ukrainians founded more than 11.2% of all new companies in Poland, which indicates their active participation in the Polish economy. In addition, 77% of new enterprises registered by foreigners were managed by Ukrainians, which emphasizes the significant role of Ukrainians among foreign entrepreneurs in Poland.
According to PIE, in the first half of 2024, about 35% of new Ukrainian enterprises were founded by women, which is slightly lower than the corresponding figure among Polish women entrepreneurs (38%). However, in 2023, the share of Ukrainian women who headed active individual enterprises exceeded the share of Polish women (37% versus 34%). The lowest share of enterprises founded by Ukrainian women was recorded in January 2024 (31%), while the highest was recorded in July 2022 (44%).
The structure of businesses founded by Ukrainian men and women has certain differences. Ukrainian enterprises founded in the first half of 2024 mainly work in the fields of construction (23%), information and communication technologies (19%) and services (12%). Men more often found enterprises in the field of construction (34%), information and communication (23%), transport and warehousing (11%). On the other hand, almost every third enterprise headed by Ukrainian women provides services (30%).
