Finland began to deny asylum to Russians who fled mobilization

Finland’s migration service has begun rejecting asylum requests from Russian citizens who cite fear of mobilization as the reason for their application. About this informs Nightingale.

Nikita Kyrylov, a representative of the human rights organization Initiative for Resistance and Dialogues Ry, said that in the past two months at least five Russian citizens have been refused. In addition, Satakieli is aware of two more similar cases.

According to Kirilov, the Finnish authorities explain the refusal by the fact that in Russia “partial mobilization” has already ended, and the applicants are allegedly no longer in danger. Analyzing the cases in which Russians were granted asylum in Finland during 2024, Kirillov noted that it was never linked to the risk of forced conscription.

There are currently around 500 asylum seekers in Finland who cite mobilization or conscription as the reason for their applications

“About 30% of them didn’t even pass the first interview, and 60-70% are still in the process”, – said Kyrylov.
