Fires in the ecosystems of the Odessa region caused losses of UAH 175 million
Fires continue to burn in open areas in the Odessa region, despite almost a week of rain and the absence of heat, which should have protected nature from fire. The region’s ecosystems are suffering from the flames not because of natural phenomena, but because of human negligence and indifference.
According to official data of the State Ecological Inspectorate of the South-Western District, environmental damage since the beginning of this spring has already reached 175 million hryvnias, and this figure continues to grow rapidly due to new cases of fires.
Experts emphasize that the widespread myth about the ability of fire to cleanse or fertilize the land is completely untrue. In fact, after such fires, the soil loses its natural fertility, animals and plants die en masse, and the air is polluted with toxic smoke. Nature requires a long time and significant resources to fully recover from such devastating blows.
Environmentalists once again call on citizens to be aware, follow fire safety rules when outdoors, not to provoke fires and not to destroy the land through their carelessness.
Controlling the situation in the region remains a priority for relevant state services, which call on witnesses of arson to promptly inform law enforcement agencies in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.
