Five border guards from Volyn were reported on suspicion of organizing the illegal departure of more than 120 men abroad

Five servicemen of the Volyn Border Guard Unit announcedon suspicion of organizing the illegal departure of men of military age abroad. According to the investigation, due to their actions, more than 120 people were able to cross the state border unhindered and leave for Poland.

The investigation found that from October 2023 to January 2024, five border guards systematically failed to properly check documents at one of the checkpoints. This created conditions for the illegal departure of men of draft age from Ukraine during the period of martial law.

Under the procedural guidance of the Volyn Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Field of Defense of the Western Region, they were notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 332 and Part 3 of Article 419 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – in facilitating the illegal crossing of persons across the state border by an official using his official position and in violating the rules of border service, which caused grave consequences, committed during martial law.

Prosecutors have filed a motion with the court to apply preventive measures in the form of detention to the suspects. The identification of other persons who may be involved in the scheme is ongoing, and the possibility of their receiving illegal benefits is also being checked. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Territorial Department of the State Border Guard in Lviv, operational support is provided by the Territorial Department of the State Border Guard in Lviv and the 6th Border Guard of the Volyn Border Guard of the State Border Guard Service.
