Children’s coach to be tried in Kyiv for sexual abuse of female students
A trial has begun in Kyiv against a thirty-seven-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach. The man is accused of committing sexual violence and lewd acts against underage students.
The transfer of the case to court was reported by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko. According to the investigation, the accused conducted individual classes, during which he purposefully used the vulnerable state of children to commit offenses.
One of the victims was an eleven-year-old girl who attended training in the capital. The illegal actions were exposed thanks to the installation of a hidden camera in the gym. The official provided details about the circumstances of the crimes, emphasizing the systematic nature of the actions of the accused.
“Leaving alone with the girl, the coach committed sexual violence and later repeated it again. He purposefully used the child’s trust and vulnerability. Due to her age, the girl simply did not understand what was happening, and the coach assured her that there was nothing wrong with his actions, but persuaded her to hide what had happened,” the Prosecutor General of Ukraine emphasized.
After the disclosure of information about this case, another victim contacted law enforcement agencies. A former student told about similar actions by the coach that occurred during his work in the city of Zaporizhzhia back in 2017. At that time, the child was also eleven years old. The investigation established that the athlete acted according to a similar scheme, abusing the authority of the mentor and the trust of the students.
The actions of the accused are qualified as committing lewd acts against a minor and repeated sexual violence against a child under the age of fourteen.
The defendant is currently in custody. Despite the available evidence and testimony, the man does not admit his guilt, and the case is being considered by the court in accordance with the procedure established by law.
