Former deputy mayor of Popasna sentenced to eight years for collaborationism
The former deputy mayor of Popasnaya in Luhansk Region was sentenced to eight years in prison for cooperating with the occupation authorities. About this reported The Office of the SBU in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts on their Facebook page.
“According to the materials of the Security Service, the former deputy mayor of Popasnaya received a court verdict for collaborative activity. It was established that in the spring of 2022, when the city was stormed by invaders, a pro-Russian official, a supporter of the Party of Regions, refused to evacuate. After the occupation of Popasnaya, he voluntarily went to cooperate with the enemy and in July was appointed deputy head of the administration of the Popasnaya district of the LPR“, the message says.
It is reported that he remained in this position until the end of August 2022, and later worked in the occupying “Pervomaysky district administration” as Russian forces liquidated their management structures in the destroyed Popasnaya.
The court found the suspect guilty under Part 5 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, sentencing him to eight years in prison with confiscation of all property in favor of the state.
At this time, the collaborator is wanted, and the countdown of the term of serving the sentence will begin from the moment of his arrest.
The investigation was carried out by the Main Directorate of the SBU in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Luhansk regional prosecutor’s office.
