Former Olympic champion’s coach suspected of sexual crimes against female students

Former coach of Olympic champion Amber Glenn Benjamin Schroats is accused of sexual assault against two of his former students, one of whom, according to investigators, was a minor at the time of the alleged relationship. Investigators report that the 47-year-old coach is accused of sexual assault and indecent acts against a child. The investigation began after two female athletes contacted police in Allen, Texas.

Schroats was arrested and booked into the Collin County Jail on $200,000 bail. The conditions of his bail include a ban on coaching. Through his attorney, the coach has denied the charges. The defense says that Shroats has worked in the figure skating industry in North Texas for more than three decades and has an impeccable reputation.

It is known that Amber Glenn began training under Shroats at the age of nine. The athlete previously called him “ice dad” and noted his importance in her career. She now works with other mentors. Law enforcement continues to investigate. If proven guilty, the coach could face severe punishment.

The 26-year-old Glenn recently won a gold medal as part of the US team in the team competition at the 2026 Olympics, and also demonstrated a strong performance in the free program. The winner in this discipline was Alice Liu.

Later, the organizers of the 2026 Games obliged the young athlete to return the gold medal for an unusual reason.
