France ready to provide nuclear weapons to European allies: Emmanuel Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron said that France could provide European allies with strategic resources related to nuclear deterrence for possible “deployment under circumstances.” This was reported by BFMTV.

According to Macron, this decision concerns countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom – the only other country on the continent with nuclear potential – as well as the Netherlands and Poland.

“Cooperation will begin with joint exercises. France is ready to develop the concept of “extended nuclear deterrence”, which will include a “European dimension. The final decision will not be joint, it will always remain in the hands of the head of state,” Macron stressed.

In addition, the French president announced plans to expand the country’s nuclear arsenal.

It was previously reported that a number of European states had begun discussing possible options for their own nuclear deterrence, as confidence in the reliability of the United States as an ally had decreased. At the same time, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby confirmed the US’s intention to continue providing Europe with a “nuclear umbrella.”
