French investigators searched former Prosecutor General Piskun due to suspicions in the Kolomoisky case

The State Bureau of Investigation in France has conducted searches at the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Sviatoslav Piskun. As media reports, this is related to the investigation into Ihor Kolomoisky, who is suspected of organizing an assassination attempt on lawyer Serhiy Karpenko in 2003.
According to the publication’s sources, investigators are checking whether Piskun could have received an illegal benefit in order to close the case against Kolomoisky. The previous day, searches took place at Piskun’s villa in the suburbs of Nice, where he lives with his family, and now investigators are working with the notary who formalized the purchase of this property. There is speculation that the house could have been purchased with money obtained illegally while Piskun was the Prosecutor General.
The media reported that during searches in the house of the former official, documents were found that are interesting for the investigation, but do not directly relate to the case against Kolomoisky.
The attempt on the lawyer Karpenko occurred in August 2003: four men attacked him with a knife and a metal rod. Karpenko survived, and the perpetrators were sentenced to 6-12 years in prison. In 2005, a criminal case was opened against Kolomoisky for allegedly ordering this attack. The investigation believed that the motive could have been Karpenko’s refusal to carry out the oligarch’s instructions during the corporate conflict around “Dniprospetsstal”. At that time, the case was closed, and Kolomoiskyi left abroad.
The investigation was resumed in May 2024: the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office reopened the proceedings and served Kolomoisky with a suspicion, when he had already been under arrest for nine months.
Sviatoslav Piskun was Prosecutor General in 2002–2003, 2004–2005, and for a month in 2007. In the summer of 2020, he briefly served as an advisor to Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova.
