From today, Ukrainians were allowed to officially own captured weapons
From now on, found firearms and ammunition must be declared immediately. This is provided by the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring the participation of civilians in the defense of Ukraine”, which came into force today. As reported National Police, this law improves the procedure for obtaining, declaring and handling firearms, and also provides a legal basis for citizens not to be prosecuted for the possession of unregistered weapons, if they are declared.
“If you find firearms and ammunition for them, you must immediately declare them. You can do this at the units of the National Police.”, – call the law enforcement officers.
Within 24 hours, you need to go to the nearest police station for a declaration. At the same time, the citizen must decide whether to keep the weapon after declaring it, or to hand it over to the police voluntarily.
During the transportation of weapons and ammunition for delivery or declaration, they must be unloaded and hidden from outsiders. It is forbidden to disassemble weapons, show or transfer them to other persons, except for police officers.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bohdan Drapyaty noted, that the “Action” application will soon have a function for obtaining and renewing permits for the possession of weapons. He also reminded that since June 2023, the Unified Weapons Register and the electronic cabinet of the weapon owner have been operating in Ukraine, which has significantly simplified the submission of documents for obtaining or extending permits.
The adoption of this law is aimed at strengthening control over the circulation of weapons and creating a safer environment for citizens.
